Actually (and I find this whole situation as reprehensible as anyone might) she was pardoned for being alone and unchaperoned with a man who was neither her husband nor a relative. That's a big no-no in the land of the oh-so enlightened Saudis.
Hey, I have an idea. How about our leader giving big, big hugs to their leader? Frequently. Inviting them to Mother's birthday party? Fly members of their family out of the country only days after 9/11 so they remain "safe?"
Oh, wait. That already happened. I always tell my daughter that one's friends do matter. These friends suck.
