but a city can't have real urban renewal and job growth without a happening gay scene How do you figure this Fab?
I can see wheer general acceptance it the primary goal, but even tolerance is better than deliberate ignorance of a problem (as was done to those two gentlemen in the article). But where does a "gay scene" become necessary? The connotation denotes clubs and other social outlets. Clubs and the like have never really stood at the head of what could be lauded for any social/economic/religious or ethnic group, so how do you figure they are needed for a city to succeed?
I will not argue that acceptance is needed (not just tolerance). But I think I may be misinterpreting what you mean by a "happening scene".
