I know I am baiting you here Fab, but you seem to be awfully stereotypical in your assertations here!

(BTW, I never said that a community could not be "gay freindly", I was just asking why it needed a "happening gay scene". The phrase does not imply tolerance and synchronicity, but rather a, to put it nicely, "vibrant" gay social scene. Are you requiring more of the former, or latter (or both?))
