If she lived to be 85, I'd have to say that she won. She had a family to be proud of who espouse her ideals, a distinguished career as an activist and author, and a reputation that commanded respect. The greater tragedy was when Barbara Jordan died in 1996 at just 60 years old.

A fond farewell to a role model of our times, who left just as we could use many more like her.

"Remember me...but ah, forget my fate."
