Transportation Funding Is Approved As One Of Three Ballot Measures
November 09, 2005
New York City voters approved three ballot initiatives Tuesday, including a bond act that could jumpstart the stagnant Second Avenue Subway project.
Voters approved State Proposition 2
, which will authorize $2.9 billion in bonds to help pay for transit projects across the state. It includes some $900 million in funds to restart construction on the city's Second Avenue Subway, and provide East Side access for the Long Island Rail Road.
The measure passed by a margin of 57 percent to 43 percent.
Voters also rejected State Proposition 1
, which means the governor will keep his extensive power in the budget process.
In city initiatives,
voters approved Proposition 3
, which directs the mayor to write up a code of ethics for administrative judges and hearing officers. The measure was approved 79 percent to 21 percent.
Voters also approved Proposition 4
, making permanent some of the provisions of the state Financial Emergency Act, which was enacted during the 1975 fiscal crisis.
The initiative was approved 77 percent to 23 percent.
