Have you ever heard of anyone overdosing on marijuana, either? I'm pretty sure it's the only recreational drug that won't kill you if you take to much -- cocaine, alchohol, pain-killers, uppers, downers, nicotine, and caffeine are all quite deadly in massive doses.

The danger comes from the fat that it's smoked. If it were legal and thus much cheaper, people would probably use safer, healther methods of enjoyment.
