Thinking outside the "Box" here: What about some home grown terrorist, during planning/practicing/training, checking out a Shoulder Held Anti-Aircraft Missile and it accidently firing? Or is that too far out of the box?

I don't buy the "Unknown aircraft" theory because any acft able to leave such a definitive contrail would be on flight planning/ATC/FAA records for the date/time and place, and be identifiable.
