But so was All in the Family. BBT and HIMYM are both fine for what they are, which is joke a minute sitcoms. There is not much depth to them, but it could be worse... they could be Will and Grace.

Don't know about All in the family but HIMYM was exactly what you said, for the first couple of seasons, although nothing amazing, the running jokes were great and the show has a real thing on it's hand.

But it went downhill very fast and for the last few seasons it has been nothing but utter garbage.

BBT is almost the same but much less funny.
