Right, because your telco controls your device, not Google.

Both companies have been caught with mishandling user data before (like Apple storing all location data unencrypted IIRC). One was a balls-up, the other was deliberate data gauging. Isn't there a difference?

Really, if you feel better by believing that your platform of choice is any better than the competition and gives two ****s about your privacy, then by all means, go ahead. Thanks for giving me permission. On a serious note, the decision to go with a particular platform should be driven by their policy, not blend belief in what they're doing after the fact.
