The manufacturers use it for a reason, it punishes a cars suspension.
They use it for all the wrong reasons though. Because of all the banked corners the cars have to have incredibly stiff suspension with solid damping in order to feel composed going around them. This does not translate well to the road where corners are not banked and don't induce additional g loads.

It's a bit like testing a submarine's flying capabilities.
