It would make the drug business government controlled. It would mean tax income, next to no black market and people who use it would be more safe than now, and it would be easier to help them. Also, less people in prisons and less crime (=less pointless expenses paid by the tax payers). Seems like a win-win situation to me.
It's already proven that everything you has said is true with real world examples.

Just look at what decriminalization did for Portugal. It has worked WONDERS by decreasing drug crime, decreasing users, more people seeking treatment, less costly for the government and reduce aids heavily.

Meanwhile the us is going to continue to waste another trillion dollars on the War on Drugs while we have the highest illicit drug use in the world.

It is just stupid at this point to even bother.
