Does an 11" device need such a stupidly high resolution?

It helps the marketing.

Bit like the digital cameras you can buy with 12 or 16 MegaPixel resolution.

Lots of people assume they are better, where as you would probably be better paying more for a 'quality' camera with a lower resolution.

It's a headline figure to grab attention.
