Kaboemielies .........What is it ? Listening to a song by David Fourie . Nice song . But as 'n Engelsman I don't know what it is. Is it Samp Mielies?? Please help this poor Engels person out

Piglet I am a bit rusty on afrikaans, What I can remember" Kaboemeilies"
(only yellow meilies) The pips are cut off the cob and boiled in salt water.
We used to just eat it by the handful. I am sure someone can explain it better ...

. I am sure some ate them raw.
