Oh, how could I miss this comment? Sharia-Kid, it
seems that you are proud of the Turkish inspired invasion of the highlands from 500 years ago eh? What is there to be proud of being foot soldiers of the Turks buster? besides, haven't you been shown countless times that Gragn was most likely not a Somali even though he had probably many Somali foot soldiers. But most of all, Gragn destroyed many beautiful and historical church edifices and manuscripts of the highlands that even Muslims of the horn today could have been proud of, yet he left us nothing of value whilst on his destruction spree, not even one mosque or even one edifice saying 'I gragn did this',
Aware_dog, be less emotional and more objective of an era long gone. The campaign against the Solomonids by the Adalites was solely the result of the former power encroaching on the latter, there were no Ottomans needed to entice them into invading the highlands, the grievances were already there. The fringe assertion that he was not Somali is an issue i will address more deeply a different time, but that link is not really convincing at all, the fact that individuals with the sobriquet Al-Somali - which is quite common - are being presented as the only 'Somali individuals' is just poor scholarship, it's tantamount to restricting all historic Persian islamic individuals to the sobriquet ''Al-Farsi''. What we do know however is that he was born in a Somali city, his army was mainly Somali, and he immersed himself in their clan-politics, most of his relatives were married to easily indentifiable Somali individuals. As for heritage, the Adalite legacy is widespread, the hundreds of mosques and courtyard houses in cities such as Abasa, Amud, Zeila, Harar are evident of that. As a heritage lover of any religion, i have to agree though that the first part of the campaign was something that should have been done differently and those artistical treasures should have been left alone.
