The central problem with African Americans is that there is an identity issue. So some blacks, struggle with trying to create their own identity. If you think about it, only 50 years ago, segregation still existed. That's fairly recent. Some blacks probably have parents and grandparents that had to go through it.

How some of them try to create their own identity? By forming gangs, by being territorial about their hood etc. They want to feel that in a sense they belong and that the world owes them something for what they've experienced.

Of course, not all black people have this problem. But I do see where it comes from.

Even today, I have black friends who are in college, who are questioned by the police for any little thing just for being black. Sad, but true. "One bad apple ruins the batch."
You actually bring up a good point.African Americans are a mix of different ethnic groups and from what I read in the slave days many African families were broken up.America has one of the highest crime rates in the world, many in cities that are predominately African American ie. Detroit,St. Louis,Gary, etc.Alot are in the Midwest, where coincidentally it's called the "Rustbelt".
