I thought Cromwell won anyway? Wasn't the king depoused and the Protectorate established? Cromwell died of natural causes and only then was the monarchy restored. Right?

I guess he lost in the long-term but he won during his life and the long-term effects of England being a parliamentary system and mostly Protestant would indicate that he won in the long-term.
