It's really nice out by Woodstock, Japher. Still outside the main suburban sprawl, straight NW of the city and not far from the Wisconsin border. It's still close enough to the city to access whatever you want, and because it's NW, O'Hare isn't too inconvenient. There are still farms and forests and stuff in the area. Very white, very low crime, last I checked. And yes, housing is definitely below market rate out there. You'd want to live close by, because the road system is not built out, and the area is definitely growing, so commuting can be tricky.
To answer your direct question: Besides Woodstock itself, Crystal Lake, McHenry, Lakemoor and Wauconda are probably your best bets. I know Lakemoor and Wauconda have lots of new subdivisions going up right now.
