Hi Gary
Contemplation and concentration can be different interchangeable
elements
of meditation, and you can move between the two in one particular sitting if you wish. There's no hard and fast rules.
Alternatively, you can use your meditation session for contemplation only, such as 'who am I?' or just concentration on an object, such as the breath or bodily sensations.
Just to make things confusing though, you could then contemplate these bodily sensations and ask yourself 'where do these come from?'.
Whatever you do, it's all good practice though
