I'm not talking about neo-Nazis. I was watching Das Boot earlier and the first mate is a German from Mexico City. I believe Das Boot is completely a work of fiction but it got me wondering whether Germans from Mexico actually left to fight for Germany. I know Mexico was an important partner for Germany at the time and imported as much as 80% of Mexico's oil so I imagine they weren't going to stop people who wanted to go. Does anyone know anything about this? What about South American nations? Did Germans leave those to fight for Germany?
