@Americans
Are you really sure that most Amerindian looking latinos in the US are Mexicans?
Can you differenciate between Mexicans and Central Americans like Salvadorians or Ecuadorians?[COLOR="Silver"]
I can't always tell immigrant Mexicans and Central Americans apart, no. The majority of these groups all look the same to me, but they also all have outliers.

I can almost always tell native-born US Latinos apart from first-generation immigrant ones, just on their dress, demeanor, how they congregate and whom with. Of course if I get to hear them speak English them my accuracy goes up to probably 99%, basically 100% except in cases where they were brought here as young children.

I can also usually tell apart Latino from Anglo-mixed Native Americans on visual inspection, just from their physical features.

I can definitely tell the majority of mestizos like Mexicans and Salvadorans apart from most Afro-Caribbeans like Puerto Ricans and Dominicans. I can't tell Puerto Ricans and Dominicans apart on visual inspection, no. I have known a few Puerto Ricans but not a single Dominican in day to day life, and I have visited the east coast but never lived there, so my exposure is limited. Actually one of my best friends is a 3rd-gen Puerto Rican from the NY / NJ area transplanted to the south. He is light-skinned southern Euro looking and claims Spanish ancestry, same with his mom, but his dad looks sort of mestizo to me, possibly with SSA mix, and a lot of his cousins are mulattoes. His sister looks about like Jennifer Lopez.

South Americans I have a hard time identifying due to lack of exposure. They range from looking like Europeans, to Natives, to Africans in ways that I can't associate with any nation of origin. I have sort of developed an eye for spotting Brazilians from watching MMA but I can still easily get them confused for Afro-Caribbeans.
