I'd go with the English/British: think suicide charges (Gallipoli, Sevastopol). To charge into your own death and knowing that is what is likely to happen ahead of time is pretty damn brave.

Also think Crecy: Lesser armoured English longbowmen vs. superiorly armed Genoaese crossbowmen in service of the French. On that day, the longbow and longbowmen won.
