The foreign population wasn't way smaller back then than it is now. It was smaller, but not way smaller. There was lots of Iranians and Chileans for example living in Sweden then. The infamous Rinkeby existed as well, and had the exact same reputation as it does today.

Like I said:

That Italian guy wasn't darker than Ausonius. About the same, I'd say.

but im sure his facial features looked more southern anyways, ausonius looks quite central euro, german-swiss or austrian. not italian.
