Sorry for my ignorance, but what;s the difference between cute and pretty?

I use the word cute as in pretty for girls and if it's a child or pet I usually use the word cute but I mean again pretty and sweet looking.

So can anybody tell me what's exact the difference between cute and pretty?

Well.. out of 10.

0 to 4= ugly

5-7= Cute

8 to 10= Too hot for me
