"Tocharian" is from greek Tokharoi. What they called themself is not certain, but kuśiññe (Tocharian B; modernized: Kuchean) and ārśi (Tocharian A) has been suggested by Mallory. Adams suggest they called themself ākñi.
Yes Tocharian A were called different names by different people. Sanskrit people called them Tusharas, Tukharas, Tokharas and Tuharas.

Tokharoi(Greek)/Tukhara(Vedic)/Twaqary(Turkic). Adds up doesn't it?

When outsiders called them something closely related to Tocharian, its more credible than what Douglas Q. Adams hypothesized. Akni means "borderers" or "marchers". Sounds more like a term used for phalanx than what the actual people as a whole referred to themselves doesn't it?
