They should have known what kind of conditions they were getting themselves when they placed them in the Arab world. I think it would have been much had they gotten a sizable island or chain of islands and settled there.

That is not true. Genetics have proven that Jews do not descend from Khazars. Ashkenazi Jews are mainly Mideastern mixed with Italians and some minor central-east European. Although that is irrelevant considering the majority of Israeli Jews are oriental ones.
