Well, his mother was a Christian, so his genetic make-up is fairly confusing. I don't think there were any Christian missionaries in Mongolia proper.
Actually, a large portion of the Mongolian population back then was Christian. They belonged to the Nestorian church, which spread to Mongolia from the Middle East by means of the Silk Road.
