Why do chimpanzees have a shorter gestation period & don't live as long.

Why because chimpanzees are not setup to live as long.

Humans have a longer childhood, which partly explains our long life per nature (disregarding deaths due to injuries, poison, starvation etc). You have to put the different stages in life into consideration when you talk about cross-species longlivety.
