I'm entirely convinced that someone of a different type beating a racist would make the latter less racist...

well, he will do it because the man offended him with his speech, and as part of the freedom of speech, he made himself very felt with the fist, remeber that it is freedom of speech so we won't go to jail for hitting a person who offended him.
