So Berbers were just these people that the Arabs hired basically to fight for them? Why did they allow the Arabs to be the leaders? And how did black Africans come into play in all this? I thought Berbers were not black?

I'm not sure about that to be honest, we don't study the moors in detail here. But according to wikipedia Tariq (the moorish general who invaded us) was a berber after all. As for what united arabs and berbers, it was religion. North Africa had been recently islamized i think.
