I think Chinese or Japanese, their culture and religion has always tolerated that sort of thing.
Look up Sugihara and Katsurada 1999, a study I was familiar with for my Psychology exam, they applied Bem's 1974 inventory to Japanese students, they found them to have the most feminine males BUT remember these inventories are created by westerners so there is the potential for western cultural bias.

Also, I mentioned the study because its related masculinity in Japanese culture, conflating homosexuality with outward femininity is dangerous ground.
