Well I can tell you there are AfroColombians with surnames that are slave port city names in Africa like Carabali which is a corruption of Calabar...the slave port in Nigeria...this indicating their African ancestors were brought from the Calabar slave port in Nigeria. Like you said though, that does not indicate they were from Calabar, they were captured from elsewhere, not too far, but probably not directly in Calabar. I can imagine they had to be from different areas near Calabar though. No one is going to bring people all the way from like Mozambique to Calabar, Nigeria imo.
Thats interesting I thought the majority of Slaves took the name of the ship and then their slaveowners.

I agree an I also thought that slave snatchers tended to stick close to the coastal areas rather than travel mainland and far places.
