I was recommended by a job search agency.

Programmer for a while, then QA manager.

MBA is useful, but I just have a computer science degree and a few certifications.

What were the opportunities like for moving sideways within the corporate structure, so to speak? E.G. moving from being an in-house lawyer to a trader?

I only thought about the MBA because firstly it would be a good stepping stone to jobs in consulting if working for a bank didn't work out, secondly a law degree alone will only qualify me for a narrow range of duties at a bank and thirdly MBA courses are a great place to network. I don't imagine most traders have MBAs.
