If the sun angle is from behind, the view of the shadow would be blocked by the kid. Then again, the guy's eyes look to be in shadow...Most likely the sun is pretty much overhead, although obviously it's behind clouds.

It seem the sun angle is from behind the guy is taller his shadow should be strong and sharper, i think the view of the shadow should be over the kid and to his right, check the shadow of the stones in the background.

Also check the reflection in the white guy's neck and face seems inconsistent.

Unless I'm missing something, wouldn't it be possible that the kid is not really dead, and the two are just posing?

I am not sure whats the model of that firearm but i think it should case visible damage, there is not blood in the picture.
