An Island like puerto rico should focus on their own culture their own natives and their own beliefs, it's pretty easy for your island. You don't have to call yourself native american, just call yourself Puerto Rican and don't pretend to be American or from USA unless you want to lose your identity.
However for me I'm neither Mexican nor Salvadorean, I'm both, but what is the combination of both equal to?
It's not latin american, since I grew up in USA and the Latin in me is not the majority of my genes
I'm not Hispanic because Language is pointless and I speak English more often than Spanish.
It's Native American or just American. Since both those words are weird, Indian is more of an empowering word.
If a German and a Dutchmen have kids they are still European Germanics.
