Yes, at the beginning of the US nation, only the Anglo-Saxons (and the Dutch, for some funny reason) were considered white. It is just a social construct anyway, based on someone's personal opinion. Far from all Caucasoids are "white" these days either.

If person is 1/2 Jewish, would you consider him or her as a mixed person?

No, I would not "consider" him or her to be mixed. If the other half is something predominantly Caucasoid, of course.
