Hi,

As your bf said, people may stare out of curiosity, there isn't any racism per say, its unlikely you will feel discriminated against.

It depends on your personality, do you like attention from strangers, do you like being asked questions and do you have thick skin? if so... Turkey will be a piece of cake. You will love it.
If however, you do not like the above, you may get a bit stressed out!

In addition an important factor is, Which part of Turkey you are going to be at, is it a City, a town or a village? each of these places has there own positives and negatives. They have there own ways to behave in each area.

How to behave generally depends on where you are and with who, as a woman they don't like "loud" talking women, so when you are in a cafe on the bus or in public generally, people prefer to speak to one another in hushed tones, its not just women, men are like that too.

As a woman try to be "helpful" to the Mother in law, ask to help pour some tea, or do some washing up or whatever they love that stuff.

Again clothes and stuff depends on which part of Turkey you are at.

It would help if you told us where you are going to be, whether its a town or village or are you in the city, and where is your BF family from, are they religious etc...

btw there are MANY black people in Turkey.

Especially in Adana near the Incirlik airbase, in Istanbul, in Ankara and also some villages, but the village onces you wont probably ever meet!
Thats very useful , thanks. I didnt mention we are going to a touristic Coastal Area in Antalya. No they are not religious. Phew. lol
