Slavery has always been more a class issue than race issue. Money and power is to blame and all human groups are capable of beeing cruel.

I believe slavery has been about certain groups of people, (which can occur among different races or within a race), although racism has been a major part of it. Slaves do not have the same rights as a free person and they are viewed as property and not a living breathing human being.

But with racism, a dominant race would view another as not their equal, therefore giving them a reason to own the latter group.
