I don't consider straightening ones hair as a form of wanting to be white or mixed. It's a hair style to me. Sometimes my hair is straightened, sometimes natural and curly and sometimes braided. Also, not all black people have "nappy hair" as you put it and there are light skinned blacks, who are not mixed.
Well said. I never saw it as being white either..., but a style. I don't get the big deal and whites are not the only race to have straighter hair. heck there are many whites who don't even have straight hair. i know white women with naturally curly hair who straighten their hair. so are they trying to be white when they are? how can someone say straight hair is exclusively white? *rolls eyes*
