indians pretty much have the most diverse native phenotype of any people on earth. many north indians could easily pass as italians, others could pass as middle eastern people such as iranians. some other groups could easily pass as south american latinos/mestizos. in eastern india some of them look like south east asians but i thinkt hat is because of mixing with tibeto-burman people in the past.
some other indians in the south look like mullatos but with straight/wavy hair.

Tamils are pretty distinct, they look like very dark cacuasoids. majority of them have the same facial features as white people.
No, North Indians cannot pass for Italians. Is this a joke or what? A few can pass for West Asians, and invariably because of fairly recent West Asian genes. Even Bollywood stars rarely pass for anything other than light-pigmented Indians.

It is because of Tamils many Americans think Indians are black, like East African of some sort. Remember lot of East Africans too are Caucasoid.

You do have one or two individuals among Indians here and there that can for European of some sort, though it's a stretch.

Basically it's more random. It does not matter region. Some are light, some are dark, but mostly dark.

In Fiji too, there is quite a lot of Indians there. You can also encounter people with typically Indian names and very Melanesian phenotype (due to mixing there).
Its not not necessarily mixing. Some South Indians can look Melanasian, too. It's only the lucky few Indians that can look West Asian.
