Southerners are known for being polite. It's called Southern Hospitality.

For the most part, they live in harmony with their black, Native American, and Hispanic neighbors. Do you think they'd make a big fuss over the occasional dothead? Black women are also known to be smelly, but you probably wouldn't hear it from a southerner unless he's a devout racist.
