Yes, but only rarely and lightly. In my culture, it's normal to 'discipline' your children through beatings, there is no controversy over it like there is in the West, but sometimes some parents take it to the extreme and do things I really consider to be evil, like some parents put chili pepper on their child's mouth if they said something vulgar as a way of making them learn to never say such things again. I once witnessed such an episode at my neighbour's house, it was so traumatizing to see such a thing! The child was just screaming from pain and the mother was satisfied that he 'learnt his lesson'. Other parents literally beat up their child, which I find to be barbaric and child abuse...Personally, I wouldn't smack my own kid, I don't have the heart to. I think there are alternatives. I wasn't ever beaten, my parents used to talk to me as a mature person, we communicated through trust & understanding, so I turned out ok through just that.
