No, in some places in the countryside young girls wear them too, and I personally don't consider them ugly. In fact, the batic is not only part of your national dress, but also a very fashionable accessory. Before you start bashing me with ill-mannered Canadian logic: yes, Romanian women think that the batic is very nice and fashionable. They are practically drawn to this item. Naturally, as the hypocrites they are, they will tell you that "Noooo, we don't have this in our culture. Only old women wear that!". Yet, the next moment you'll see them tying a big scarf on their head ("But it's latino-style! Very fashionable!") or asking me where one can get those beautiful Russian headscarves ("Can you get one for me?"). You might see Romanian women wearing hats, which are a modern take on the veil. In either case - it's part of your culture whether you like it or not.
