To be sincere, Brits are considered to be great sailors, perhaps the best ever, and they have won lots of naval battles.

But on the ground, I think they are quite less than Germans, Spaniards or even the French. The english have lost many groundbattles.
The english infantry has never been considered awesome, it was a thin red line, if it wasnt for the English Channel, England would be a part of France.

Spain didn't lose the war against England when the Armada happened, Spain remained the main naval power for 30 years more and it was the dutch who replaced Spain as main naval power, not the English.
English naval supremacy is more of a thing of the XVIII century, it happened later.
