The Germans were doing pretty well against multiple enemies until Hitler decided Aryans came with natural antifreeze in their systems.

The German army was technically and tactically brilliant but in stategy it was woeful compared to the Russians and Americans, partly due to Hitler's meddling especially in the Russian campaign.
Also it's a bit bone-headed declaring war on the USA when you are already at war with both the Soviet Union and the British Empire.
