Strangely enough Europeans tend to insult us by calling us conservative. Regardless, I think the hatred of English people goes beyond their uptight contempt for English people having a good time. It's certainly fuel to the fire, but it's not the main reason.

Loud, drunk, cheap

Obviously this does not fit to all English but unfortunately it does for quite a big chunk. Especially on European tourist destinations. Further you go from Europe, the quality of English tourists increases.
