Of course, because Spain didn't have a huge empire. Then again, I guess they didn't get rich from it, the UK keeps Spain afloat through EU grants, lol. 20% unemployment.

Read some history.
The Spanish Empire was earlier and very large until the early 19th century.
The British finished up bigger but thanks to the Scots and Irish.
Even in North America the English were usually huddled on the east coast while the Scots-Irish pushed the frontier westwards.
