The Chinese are not much different from the Russians, except that they're more intelligent and harder workers. That being said, you're right. I don't see a non-totalitarian state being able to work in China for a prolonged period of time. That's why they experiment with economic freedom but not with social freedom. They don't wish to become a corrupt failing state like Russia is.
