InshAllah i will be travelling for umra . I have 15 days off from work. My plan is as follow

Go to Makkah mukaram, do Umrah stay 1 or 2 day & then travel to Madina munawarah and do itekaaf in masjid e nabwi for the last 10 days and EID also in madina.

I met a friend today who said its better to do the opposite , that is to stay 1-2 days in madina & then last days in Makkah. He said most of the people do this and come for khatmul quran dua in haram while the crowd is less in Madina munawarah in the last 10 days.

I dont want to compare both of these sacred places. I just want to know what is the best way of spending 15 days (Last 15 days of ramadan). All i know is that there is something good if you pray 40 consecutive prayers in madina and because Itekaaf is the sunnat of our beloved muhammad saw its better to do it in madina (my feeling) .

Can anyone guide me on this..? :S
What your friend said is true, and that's why some people do the reverse, so that they miss the crowds in Makkah. And also, hotels in Makkah in the last 10 days are at least two to three times more expensive than Madinah hotels in the same period. Can you afford to pay more? If you can't, then you'll have to go to Madinah in the last 10 days.

Personally I would reverse it (like how your friend suggested), because:

1. I enjoy sitting in mataaf and being so close to the kabah. Also the opportunity to do tawaf. Whereas as a woman in Madinah, one can't get that close to rawdah, so spiritually it is not as uplifting. But I've been told by men that for them it is extremely uplifting as they can do salam directly to the Prophet SAW every day.

2. I enjoyed (and heard others say so too) the tahajjud and taraweeh much more in Makkah more than Madinah. But it depends on whether you have preference for reciters. Check last years taraweeh out on youtube for both places.

I have no experience of the difference in itikaaf between both places, so its probably worthwhile checking with the brothers. Its probably also worthwhile checking whether any scholars you feel any inclination to will be there and whether they will be in Makkah or Madinah for the last 10 days.

Edit: Just realised you are planning to do itikaaf so you don't plan to keep a hotel in Makkah or Madinah in the last ten days?
