Shaikh ahlezikr says its obvious you do aitekaaf in masjid e nabawi. Its sunnah, Rasool Allah did aitekaaf here.

What ur friend said was zahiri, more crowd etc etc but the roohaniyat is here.

In the end its all about personal choice.
