Mass Debating is a common activity in Australian schools. For it to be qualified as a Mass Debate, 11 or more people must be involved and a certain criteria for the rules must be met. The debate is not done as formally as other debating styles, rather it involves two teams of five members each debating freely without the constrains of a turn based system. A Mass Debate usually starts with the eleventh person, designated as the "Mass Debater" giving the two teams their topic. The two teams then argue that topic freely. ... . The debate continues until the "Mass Debater" calls out [finale], after which the two teams must sum up their arguments and sway the "Mass Debater" who will then decide on the winner.
